From there, you’ll head to Aberdare National Park, where you can sip your morning coffee while gazing at wild animals right from your lodge balcony. Mount Kenya National Park is also on the itinerary for those who love a good mountain view. 14 Days off the beaten path Kenya Safari takes you to some of destinations with less crowd. Some of Kenya’s most iconic destinations, have long delighted their visitors. But if you’re the kind of person who likes to do things a little differently and prefer your wildlife encounters without the crowds, then maybe it’s time to take the road less travelled in Kenya. The safari starts in Samburu national reserve where you will experience unique wildlife. It then heads to another less crowded destination called Ol Pejeta conservancy which is second to Masai Mara in terms of wildlife density. From Ol Pejeta, other destinations on this safari are Aberdare national park where you will view wild from the balcony of the lodge and Mount Kenya national park. Due to their popularity, we have also included Lake Nakuru national park and Masai Mara game reserve.

BRIEF ITINERARY

Day 1. On arrival in Nairobi, You will be picked up and driven to your city hotel where you will relax.

Day 2. After breakfast depart to Samburu national reserve where you will have afternoon game drives.

Day 3. Morning and afternoon game drives in Samburu national reserve.

Day 4. Drive to Ol pejeta Conservancy  where you will afternoon game drives.

Day 5.  Morning and afternoon game drive in Ol pejeta

Day 6. Be driven to Mount Kenya National Park where you will have afternoon game drives

Day 7. Drive to Aberdare national park where you will have afternoon game drives.

Day 8. Transferred to the Ark where you will view wildlife from the comfort of the lodge

Day 9. Drive to Lake Nakuru where you will have after noon game drives

Day 10. Morning and afternoon game drives in Lake Nakuru.

Day 11. Drive to Masai Mara where you will have afternoon game drives.

Day 12. Full day game drive in Masai Mara with packed lunch. A balloon can be planned for this day.

14 DAYS OFF THE BEATEN PATH KENYA SAFARI DETAILED ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVAL NAIROBI 

On arrival, you will be picked up by our representative and taken to crown plaza airport hotel. the rest of the day will be spent at the hotel relaxing in preparation for safari the next day.

DAY 2 NAIROBI TO SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

You will start your safari in Nairobi and take a scenic drive to Samburu National Park, passing through lush tea, coffee and sisal plantations. Don’t forget to stop and admire the majestic Mount Kenya with its snow-capped peaks!
When you arrive at Samburu National Reserve, get ready for an unforgettable experience. It is home to some of the most unique wildlife found anywhere on Earth! Plus, thanks to the Ewaso Nyiro River running nearby, you’ll find plenty of shady trees and water sources that attract these amazing animals.
You will be crossing into the Northern Hemisphere as you enter Samburu. This is sure to be a memorable moment too! After lunch, you’ll set off on your afternoon game drives inside this pristine wonderland. When evening arrives, you’ll return back to the lodge for dinner and a good night’s rest.

DAY 3: SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

After breakfast, you’ll be ready to explore all the wonders of Samburu National Reserve, a rugged and striking landscape fed by the gorgeous Ewaso Nyiro River. This special area north of the equator is home to some unique wildlife like oryx, gerenuk, Somali ostrich, Gravy’s zebra and reticulated giraffe. Make sure to bring out your inner nature photographer!
You will take a break for lunch and a little rest once the sun’s cooled off before heading back out again for more game drives. Once evening approaches, you’ll return to cozy up at your lodge with dinner and sweet dreams until the morning comes around again.

DAY 4: Ol PEJETA CONSERVANCY

After breakfast depart Samburu and drive to Ol Pejeta conservancy. On the way you can stop at the equator marker.  You will arrive in time for lunch. After short rest you will proceed for a late afternoon game drive. Serena Sweetwaters tented camp is located in a prime location in Ol Pejeta conservancy. The conservancy is one of the few places where you can have night game drives at an extra cost. Other optional activities include lion tracking, camel ride, bush lunch/dinner etc. Interaction with the only two remaining northern white rhinos needs to be arranged in advance.

DAY 5: Ol PEJETA CONSERVANCY

After a peaceful night, birds start to sing, welcoming a bright day here in the wilderness. You will check out for morning game drives and excursions after breakfast, searching for the big cats, lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and many others.
Later, you will return to the lodge and have lunch.
After your lunch, you will continue with game drives and also learn more about conservation.
After a successful game drive and game viewing, you will check back into the camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 6: MOUNT KENYA NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, the 14 days off the beaten path Kenya safari takes you to Mount Kenya National Park.  On arrival, you will, you will check and have lunch. After lunch you will have a tour in the park. Main attractions here include pristine wilderness, lakes, tarns, glaciers and peaks of great beauty, geological variety, forest, mineral springs, rare and endangered species of animals, High altitude adapted plains game, Unique montane and alpine vegetation with 11 species of endemic plants.

DAY 7: ABERDARE NATIONAL PARK

Depart Mount Kenya after breakfast and drive to Aberdare national park. On arrival, you will check in at aberdare country club and have lunch. After lunch drive through the park, watching wildlife along the way to The Ark Safari Lodge. Here you will watch wildlife from the comfort of your hotel. The Ark has four viewing areas from which to observe the ever-present animal activity at the waterhole and saltlick. There is also a ground level hide – the perfect spot for the discerning photographer. From this vantage point, photos of animals can be taken at eye-level.

DAY 8: ABERDARE NATIONAL PARK

On this day you will have organised nature walk through the forest. You may chance upon various monkeys, such as the Colobus and Vervet monkeys, for whom the Aberdare National Park is an ideal habitat. Many birds are also found here. In the forest there are many animals like the Red Duiker, Suni, Bushbuck, elephants, buffaloes, leopards etc. The moorland thickets are the home of Bush Duicker and Black-fronted Duicker and also the Black Rhino.

DAY 9: LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

Depart Lake Naivasha after breakfast and head to Lake Nakuru national park. On arrival at lake Nakuru national park, you will enter and have en route game drive as you head to you lodge located inside the park. Arrive in time for lunch at the lodge. After a short period of relaxation you continue with game drives in Lake Nakuru National Park. The park is famous for the flocks of the greater and lesser Flamingo that gather around the lake numbering around 2 million, which turns the lake pink. This has given the lake a nickname; the pink lake. The endangered rhino and Rothschild giraffe are found in the park. Other animals found in the park include African buffalos, zebras, impalas, olive baboons, vervet monkeys, waterbucks, hyenas, jackals, hippopotamus among many others.

Back to the lodge in the evening.

DAY 10: LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast you will have game drives in the park. Back to the lodge during lunch time. After lunch and rest you will proceed with game drives in the park. During the game drives, you will view the parks popular residents including famous white Rhino and black rhino. Other animals found in the park include, lions, leopards, flamingos, Egyptian geese, water buck, giraffes, hyenas, buffalo, baboons, vervet monkeys etc.
Back to the lodge in the late afternoon.

DAY 11: MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

You will leave Lake Nakuru in the morning after early breakfast and drive to Masai Mara National Reserve. You will arrive in time for lunch. After lunch and a brief rest, you will embark on your afternoon game drive feasting your eyes on the marvels that Masai Mara has to offer. All members of the big 5 are found in this reserve. Other animals seen here include cheetah, serval, hyena, bat-eared foxes, black-backed and side-striped jackals, hippo, crocodile, baboons, warthog, topi, eland among others. Different bird species are also found. They include eagles, vultures, ostriches, storks, little grebe, pelicans, cormorants & darter. In the evening you will retire to your lodge, have dinner and fall asleep to the sounds of the African bush.

DAY 12: MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

After breakfast, you’ll leave the lodge carrying packed lunches and embark on a full-day game viewing in Africa’s finest park. A balloon safari can be arranged on this day early in the morning. You will drive to various places in the expansive Masai Mara National Reserve. In the late afternoon, you will have the option of visiting a Maasai cultural village as you head back to the lodge in the evening.

DAY 13: MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

You will have an early morning game drive. Early morning is a great time to spot predators – especially lions, cheetah and leopards, each of which prefers to hunt in the cool of dawn and dusk. Back to the lodge for breakfast and relaxation. After lunch you will proceed for a late afternoon game drive. Back to the lodge in the evening.

DAY 14: NAIROBI

After breakfast you will depart the lodge and drive leisurely towards Nairobi. On arrival you will be taken to the famous carnivore for a complimentary lunch. You will later be dropped at your city hotel or the airport according to your departure timings.
That is the end of the 14 day off the beaten path safari.
