DETAILED ITINERARY
0530HRS NAIROBI NATIONAL PARK
The tour begins with a pick up at 5.30AM in the morning for an early morning game drive at the Nairobi National Park. The game drive in Nairobi national park will start at 6AM and end at 10AM.
Nairobi National Park was established in 1946. It prides itself as being the only park in the world that is within a capital city. Backdrop of Nairobi’s skyscrapers is clearly visible from the park providing a perfect photo opportunity with wildlife. Its size is 117sq km which makes it one of Africa’s smallest game park but with abundant wildlife. The ecosystem consist of open savannah plains with scattered acacia bushes. Other features are marshy wetlands, lush forests, rugged valleys and green grasslands. It also has a permanent river with riverine forest and on the southern side there is the Athi Kapiti plains and Kitengela migration corridor which are important for wildlife dispersal during the rainy season. Man made dams have enhanced the habitat attracting many species of aquatic birds and other wildlife.
Nairobi national park has abundant wildlife. There are over 100 species of mammals and reptiles, and over 400 species of birds. It is possible to see four of the big five and these are: the Lion, Leopard, Rhino and Buffalo. Elephant is the only member of big five that is absent in the park. Other mammals and reptiles found in the park include baboon, zebra, Grant’s gazelle, cheetah, Coke’s hartebeest, hippopotamus, common eland, impala, Masai giraffe, crocodiles, Python etc. Bird species include Maasai Ostrich, African Darter, African Finfoot, Dwarf Bittern, Goliath Heron, Saddle-billed Stork, Spur-winged Goose, African Crowned Eagle among many others.
1000HRS DAVID SHELDRICK ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE
You will leave the Nairobi National Park and head over to David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. You shall have a chance to interact with these marvelous beasts and even witness as their handlers gently feed them. The orphanage rescues elephant calves whose mothers have been killed by poachers and raise them before releasing them back to the wild. If you so wish you could even have a chance to adopt one of them. At around 12.30PM, you will depart the orphanage and head for lunch at your own cost.
1400HRS GIRAFFE CENTER
After having your lunch you shall visit the giraffe center which is home to the endangered Rothschild Giraffe. The main purpose of the giraffe center is to educate Kenyan school children and youth on their country’s wildlife and environment, as well as give local and international visitors an opportunity to come into close contact with the world’s tallest species, the giraffe.
1600HRS DEPARTURE
At around 1600 hrs. you will be driven back to your hotel or the international airport as per your preference.
