TRIP SUMMARY

This safari is set to traverse some of Kenya’s most beautiful wildlife areas. You will begin your 8 days wildlife safari at Lake Naivasha. Lake Naivasha is a beautiful freshwater lake. The lake and its surroundings are rich in natural bounty. Forests of the yellow barked Acacia Xanthophlea also known as yellow fever tree surround the lake. The waters of the lake draw a great range of game to these shores. Giraffes wander among acacias, Colobus monkeys call from the treetops while the hippos sleep the day in the shallows.

Next destination on your 8 days wildlife safari is Maasai Mara National reserve. The big game in Maasai Mara is indeed unforgettable. Maasai Mara is only a fraction of the great Mara ecosystemIt is located in the great Rift Valley in southern Kenya. In the reserve, there various airstrips serving different safari lodges and tented camps, for example Keekorok and Olkiombo airstrips. The reserve can be visited all year round with emphasis on July through October when the great wildebeest migration happen.

Later visit Lake Nakuru National Park. The park is ideal for bird watching, hiking, and game drives. The Park has Kenya’s largest population of rhinos. During peak season over millions of flamingos and Pelicans congregate on the lake.

Head to Samburu National Reserve. The reserve is rich in wildlife with fame for abundance in rare northern specialist. Species such as the Grevy Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx also referred as Samburu Special).

Finally visit Aberdare National Park. Visitors can indulge in activities such as picnics, trout fishing in the rivers and camping in the moorlands. Bird viewing is in fact rewarding. With over 250 species of birds in the park, including the Jackson’s Francolin and Sparrow hawks.

DAY ONE:

NAIROBI TO LAKE NAIVASHA

DISTANCE: 95KM TIME: 2HRS

Pick up from your Nairobi hotel in the morning after your breakfast and drive to Lake Naivasha. Along your way you will have a brief stop at Mai Mahiu to view the Great Rift Valley. You will then head to Naivasha’s best kept secret known as the Crescent Island.This wondrous island is in Lake Naivasha which is a beautiful freshwater lake fringed by thick papyrus and its surroundings are rich in natural bounty abound in bird life such as fish eagles, ospreys, lily trotters, a variety of herons and over 200 more species. You will enjoy a boat ride on the glittering lake Naivasha and view the herds of hippos and various water birds found within the lake on your way to the island. At the island you get a chance to be up close to the array of wildlife such as giraffes, waterbucks, elands, wildebeest, zebras, impalas and the elusive colobus monkey. The sanctuary does not contain any predators, so it is perfectly safe to do the walk with the appointed guide.

DAY TWO:

LAKE NAIVASHA TO MAASAI MARA

DISTANCE: 211KM TIME: 5HRS

Depart Lake Naivasha early in the morning and drive to Masai Mara. This area of preserved savannah wilderness covers an area of 1510km2 and is part of the vast Serengeti plains. It is widely known for its picturesque wildebeest migration. It is home to the big five that is the lion, the buffalo, the rhino, the elephant and the leopard among other magnificent animals such as the giraffes, black backed jackal, bat eared fox, Thomson gazelle, topi and hartebeest. It also harbours over 500 different species of birds such as ostrich, bustard, white backed vulture, secretary bird and marabou stork. You will arrive in time for lunch. After a short relaxation period you will embark on your afternoon game drive to feast your eyes on the marvels that the Mara has to offer. In the evening you will retire to your lodge or camp have dinner and fall asleep to the sounds of the bush.

DAY THREE:

FULL DAY MASAAI MARA GAME DRIVES

After a scrumptious breakfast you will head out for a full day Mara experience having carried packed lunch .The morning and afternoon game drives take you in search of the Big Five as well as the plethora of outstanding wildlife found within the reserve. On clear days, the Mara offers fantastic orange tinged sunset’s well-worth capturing on camera. Wherever you go in the vast Maasai Mara the abundance of wildlife is staggering.  It is also common to see lions either basking after a heavy meal, or surveying the plains for their next meal. Towards the end of your game drive you will also get the opportunity to visit an authentic Maasai village.

DAY FOUR:

MAASAI MARA TO LAKE NAKURU

DISTANCE: 230KM TIME: 5HRS

You will leave for Nakuru after your thrilling adventure within the Mara. In Nakuru you will arrive in time for lunch at your lodge. After rest you will head out once more to the Lake Nakuru National Park also famously known as a bird watchers paradise. Flamingoes are prevalent on the Lake at different intervals giving the lake a distinct pink hue. The park is also home to the endangered black rhino, the lion, cheetahs, waterbucks and other wildlife. For the lovers of flora the area is a habitat for the biggest euphorbia forest in Africa.

DAY FIVE:

LAKE NAKURU TO SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

DISTANCE: 303KM TIME:6HRS

This piece of heaven is located on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River in Kenya. This means plenty of water, trees, and shade which attract wildlife like the elephant, the lion, the leopard, the giraffe and zebra from the surrounding savannah plains to come and quench their thirst. This provides first hand and up close viewing of these creatures. Cheetahs are also regularly spotted.

DAY SIX:

FULL DAY SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

Have a full day game drive in this wild and rugged terrain. Samburu reserve is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannah watered by the awe-inspiring Ewaso Ng’iro River. It is also one of Kenya’s most protected reserves and home to species only found north of the equator. These majestic animals would include the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebras, Beisa oryxes, Gerenuk gazelle and the greater and lesser kudu.

DAY SEVEN:

SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE TO ABERDARE NATIONAL PARK

DISTANCE: 195KM TIME: 4HRS

Depart Samburu in the morning after an early breakfast and head to Mount Kenya National Park. Mount Kenya is Africa’s second highest mountain climbing to a height of 5199meters. The scenery surrounding this designated world heritage site is absolutely breathtaking. It is a pristine wilderness with lakes, tarns, glaciers dense forest, mineral springs and a collection of rare and endangered species of animals. You will arrive in time for lunch and the rest of the afternoon will be spent at leisure while watching animals coming to have a drink at the watering hole. Nature walks in the rainforest can be arranged at an extra cost.

DAY EIGHT:

ABERDARE NATIONAL PARK – DEPARTURE/NAIROBI

You shall have a leisurely drive back to Nairobi from the Aberdare National Park. Once there you shall be driven back to your hotel residence or the International airport for your flight home bound.
