14 DAYS KENYA TWIN MIGRATION SAFARI

14 DAYS KENYA TWIN MIGRATION SUMMARY

14 Days Kenya twin migration safari  is a unique safari because it is about two migrations which are specific to Kenya.  The two types of migration are; the wildebeest migration which is usually referred to as the 8th wonder of the world and occurs when more than 2 million animals (wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle) migrate in a clockwise direction across the ecosystems of the Serengeti (Tanzania) and the Masai Mara (Kenya). The migration occurs every year when the animals cross into Kenya in July and go back to Tanzania in October. During the migration, the animals have to cross the Mara river where crocodiles prey on them. Once in Masai Mara, they are stalked and hunted by carnivores.

The second migration encountered in the  14 days Kenya twin migration safari concerns the humpback whales. The majestic creatures of the ocean visit the Watamu protected area at the Kenyan coast annually. Each year, the humpback whales are sighted along the Kenyan coast in early June as they make their migration from the Antarctica. They travel to warm tropical reefs to breed and give birth. The return Journey is in October, swimming over 4000km to the cold seas of Antarctica. Watching the whales in their natural environment leaping out of water is unforgettable experience.

The 14 days Kenya twin migration safari also passes through some of the most popular destinations . They include:

Lake Naivasha

This is a beautiful and a world class birding destination. It is fringed by thick papyrus and yellow barked acacia trees. The waters of the lake draw a wide range of wild animals to the lake. Giraffes and other ungulates wander among the acacia, buffalos wallow in the swamps and Colobus monkeys call from the treetops while the lake’s large hippo population can  be seen in the shallows.

Amboseli National Park

Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain provides a back drop to Amboseli National Park, offering breath taking vistas. It is also the best place to view huge herds of elephants up close, the park is usually referred to as the land of the gentle giant. Nature lovers can explore the different habitats ranging from  the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli, wetlands with sulphur springs, the savannah and woodlands.  They can also visit the local Maasai community who live around the park and experience their authentic culture.

Tsavo West National Park

Tsavo west National Park is also known as the land of man eaters because of the legendary lions that were preying on workers who were building the early railway line around the year 1900. The big five also find in home Tsavo West National Park but can take time to spot because of the expansiveness of the park. There are several landmarks worth visiting. They are Shetani lava flows and Mzima Springs with its underwater observation chamber for close-up views of hippos and crocodiles.

Tsavo East National Park

Tsavo East National Park is well known for dust red elephants. Other wildlife like rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, pods of hippo, crocodile, waterbucks, lesser Kudu and gerenuk can be found here. The park also has a prolific bird life with over 500 recorded species. Spotting wildlife here can be easy because of the thinly spread foliage.

The 14 Days Kenya twin Migration safari ends with a much needed rest at the Watamu. Here, you will have the opportunity of seeing the humpback whales and other marine species. Watamu  in Kenya is a beautiful and peaceful village on the Kenya Coast, nestled between pristine beaches and lush tropical forest. Watamu, the name translates into ‘sweet people’ is a home to the Bajuni people; who trace their descendants to the intermarriages between the local Giriama People and the Arab traders. It is a small town approximately 20 kilometers south of Malindi. The town has an accelerating growth rate due to the popularity of the area as a great holiday destination, with a growing economy and population.

The Shoreline of the area features white sand beaches and offshore coral formations arranged in different bays and beach like Garoda Beach, Turtle Bay, Blue Lagoon Bay and Jacaranda beach. They are a part of  Watamu Marine National Park. The Marine Park is one of the best parks in snorkeling and diving in the coast of East Africa. It is also the one of the best beach in Africa, the has a crystal clear water and silver sand beaches.
