7 Days Birding Safari Kenya will take you to destinations teaming with birds. Starting with a visit to Nairobi national park which has over 400 migratory and endemic bird species to Lake Naivasha with  over 300 bird species. You will also visit Lake Nakuru Park which is famous for the flocks of the greater and lesser Flamingos. Masai Mara will be the climax of the safari with over 400 bird species and high number of raptors. Highlights of the safari

Day 1: Visit and stay in Nairobi National Park

Day 2: After breakfast drive to Lake Naivasha to watch birds on the shores of lake.

Day 3:After breakfast drive to lake Nakuru for bird watching

Day 4: Spend the day bird watching in Lake Nakuru National Park.

Day 5: After breakfast head to Masai Mara National Park for bird watching.

Day 6: Spend the day exploring Masai Mara and bird watching.

7 DAYS BIRDING SAFARI KENYA ITINERARY

DAY 1:NAIROBI NATIONAL PARK

You will be picked at the airport and driven to your hotel located inside Nairobi national park. After lunch you will have game drives in the park. Back to the lodge in the evening. 

With nearly 500 bird species recorded, Nairobi National Park has one of the longest bird lists of any city in the world. The park’s  undisturbed grassland is of great importance for species such as the restricted-range Jackson’s widowbird, which breeds here regularly after good rains. Some other grassland birds include ostriches, secretary birds and bustards. Water birds can be found around Hyena Dam and Nagolomon Dam.  Back to the lodge in the evening.

DAY 2: NAIROBI TO LAKE NAIVASHA

After breakfast drive to Lake Naivasha for bird watching.  The day will be spent at the lake shores encountering birds drawn to the lake providing a wealth of lake shore bird sightings. Lake Naivasha is the highest of the Rift Valley Lakes at 1,880 m. It is the second largest freshwater lake and one of the only two freshwater lakes in Kenya. Availability of dense vegetation at the lake edge supports a fascinating bird life of over 350 species. Lake Naivasha holds a healthy fish population which attracts an astonishing number of water depending birds.

DAY 3 : LAKE NAKURU

After breakfast you will drive to lake Nakuru national park where you will have drives bird watching. Later check in at your hotel and have lunch. After lunch and short rest continue with bird watching in the park. Back to the lodge in the evening.

With more than 400 species recorded, Lake Nakuru National Park is a great birding destination. The lake is a birding hot spot and supports a lot of birdlife, including flamingos and pelicans. The park is also one of the best places in Kenya to see the striking long-tailed widowbird. Raptors are also in plenty including Verreaux’s and long-crested eagle.

DAY 4 : FULL DAY LAKE NAKURU

On this day, you will have morning and afternoon bird watching drives in the park.

Vast flock of flamingos, pelicans, and a wealth of other water birds are found in the lake. Exploring the Acacia woodland and the lakeside marshes you will encounter many wonderful avian. They include Great Cormorant, Great White Pelican,  African Fish-eagle, African Harrier-hawk, African Spoonbill, Francolin, Grey-headed Gull, Broad-billed Roller, Levaillant’s Cuckoo, White-browed Coucal, Green Woodhoopoe, African Firefinch, Black Cuckoo-shrike, Northern Anteater-chat, Grey-backed Fiscal, Brown-crowned Tchagra and Grey Woodpecker.

Day 5 : MASAI MARA

After breakfast, you will depart lake Naivasha and drive to Masai Mara national reserve. You will arrive in time for lunch. After lunch you will have afternoon game drives bird watching in the park. Back to the lodge in the evening.

With more than 500 bird species recorded, the reserve is a world-class birding destination.  Masai Mara national reserve is particularly rich in raptors with 57 species present. Bateleurs often soar above the grassy plains. Predator kills are a good place to find vultures circling and scavenging. Migratory birds can be found from November to April.

DAY 6:  FULL DAY MASAI MARA

From the moment the day rises until the sun sets bird songs can be heard across the Maasai Mara. After breakfast you will have will depart the lodge with packed lunch and have a full day of bird watching in the park. Some of the birds you will encounter include species as Ostrich, White-headed Vulture, Lappet-faced Vulture, Martial Eagle, Black-chested Snake Eagle, Grey Kestrel, Black-bellied Bustard, Secretary bird, Red-necked
Spurfowl, Coqui Francolin, Harlequin Quail, Temminck’s Courser, Wattled Plover, Bare-faced Go away Bird, Southern Ground Hornbill, Grey Crowned Crane, Dusky Nightjar, Woodland and Striped
Kingfishers and many others. Back to the lodge in the evening.

DAY 7: DEPATURE

Depart the lodge after breakfast and drive back to Nairobi. On arrival, you will have lunch at the famous Carnivore Restaurant before being dropped off at your hotel or the airport.
